Zita I. Shippee

OREGON - Zita I Shippee, age 91, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. She was born Jan. 13, 1922 in Hancock, WI the seventh of eleven children of Ora and Iana (Lamb) Starks. Zita married Duane Shippee on Dec. 28, 1939. He preceded her in death in 1975. She was employed with Central Wisconsin Center and retired from the State of Wisconsin after 28 years of services. Zita was a gifted artisan able to design and create beautiful quilts, knitted or crocheted tablecloths, bedspreads and doilies as well hardanger, stuffed animals and sewing. Zita enjoyed planting and growing many colorful gardens, but loved most of all cooking for and enjoying the company of her family.

She is survived by her children, Zona (Maynard) Fahrney, Rita Vingum, Mary Knickmeyer, and George Shippee; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her brother Walter Starks and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband Duane, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Metta Bohn, April Zelke, Zona, Velma Borkenhagen, and Ilona Clark; her brothers, Curtis, Ross, Bert and Nelson Starks; and her son-in-law, Jim Knickmeyer.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Burial will follow in Prairie Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 am until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.
