YES, WE CAN

11/18/12

It’s hard to capture the spirit that was in the room at the Edgewater Hotel Thursday morning as more than 150 people gathered for the groundbreaking for one of the most important civic projects in this city since Overture was built. It’s no coincidence that Jerry Frautschi was there and that he and his wife Pleasant Rowland received a warm standing ovation that was long overdue.

But this day belonged to Bob Dunn and his determination and commitment to making the Edgewater Hotel “Madison’s living room,” as he called it. It’s hard to think of another developer who would not have thrown in the towel after everything Dunn had to up with. But he did it. And there was not better testament to that achievement than the leaders in that room who made a statement that this is a business sector, a community and a city that will get things done. From George nelson to Kathleen Woit to David Ward to Susan Schmitz to Pat Richter the message was clear: this is what we need, this is how we need to do things and this is the future of this city. It was powerful statement that will be long remembered.
