MADISON, Wis. -

Police said a Madison woman was arrested Saturday after attempting to leave a far east retail store with a cart load of merchandise without paying.

A Walmart loss prevention officer at the store at 4198 Nakoosa Trail
told police a woman was pushing a cart filled with more than $600 worth of merchandise out the door at about 2:49 p.m. Police said the employee stopped her but she asserted she had paid for everything in the cart.

The woman claimed to have already thrown the receipt away, according to the report.

Police said the woman told the Walmart employee he could keep the merchandise then jumped into an awaiting red van and left.

The loss prevention officer contacted Madison police and an officer stopped the van.

Tracey D. Franklin, 43, was arrested on suspicion of retail theft and bail jumping.

Online court records indicate the woman has a lengthy criminal history.

Police said at first Franklin said she had not been at Walmart, but later protested her arrest, telling officers that Walmart had gotten all the merchandise back.
