Wis. school district arms itself with police radios

Published On: Apr 23 2013 08:32:06 PM CDT

A Wisconsin school district has added police radios as an extra layer of security.

Thanks to private donations, the New London School District now has police radios in its public and private schools.

New London School District Administrator Bill Fitzpatrick tells WLUK-TV he thinks the district is prepared.

The district and the police department raised nearly $16,000 to buy 13 new police radios.

Police Chief Jeff Schlueter says police don't want to delay their response by even 30 seconds -- they want to respond now.

Fundraising began in January, and now, each of the eight schools in the district has at least one radio.

The idea came in response to the deadly Newtown, Conn., school shooting last December.
