Walker won't endorse in state Senate race

MADISON, Wis. -

Gov. Scott Walker said he won't endorse a candidate if there is a primary in a state Senate race where the Republican incumbent is being challenged by a fellow Republican lawmaker.

Walker was asked Wednesday about his position on the race where state Rep. Howard Marklein has said he will run against Sen. Dale Schultz next year. Schultz has not said yet whether he will seek another term.

Walker said he viewed the race as being between two incumbents, even though Marklein is giving up his seat in the Assembly to go after Schultz.

Schultz has angered many Republicans for his vote against Walker's collective bargaining changes in 2011 and his opposition to a bill backed by the governor that eased environmental regulations for iron ore mining.
