Walker: Changing electoral-vote process risky

Gov. Scott Walker
MILWAUKEE -

Gov. Scott Walker said he has concerns about changing the way Wisconsin awards its electoral votes in presidential elections.

Some Republicans across the country have floated the idea of having electoral votes awarded by congressional district, not in a winner-take-all format. All of Wisconsin's 10 electoral votes went to President Barack Obama, but by the proposed method he and Republican challenger Mitt Romney would have each won five votes.

Walker said Tuesday it's an interesting idea, but not one he spends time thinking about. He said because Wisconsin is a battleground state, presidential and vice presidential candidates have an incentive to make repeated campaign stops here. He said he's wary that changing the system could dissuade candidates from visiting.

He said Wisconsin voters benefit from seeing candidates up close.
