Verona's Zach Jones named player of the year

Verona senior forward Zach Jones was named the American Family Insurance Player of the Year in Wisconsin by the state's hockey coaches at the annual WHCA banquet in Madison Wednesday night.

Jones scored 31 goals and had 26 assists in leading the Wildcats to a berth in the WIAA state hockey tournament for the second straight season.

Jones was one of eight finalists for the "Mr. Hockey" award including Whitefish Bay's Thomas Aiken, KMMO's Quinn Disrud, Homestead's Thomas Fazio, Marquette's Griff Jeszka, Chequamegon/Phillips' Joshua Lemke, Notre Dame's Steven Phillips and Hudson's Daniel Tripicchio.

The award is selected by a vote of the state's hockey coaches.
