MADISON, Wis. -

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is naming its new residence hall after conservationist Aldo Leopold.

The UW System Board of Regents has approved the naming of the building to Aldo Leopold Residence Hall. It will house 172 students starting in late August.

Jeff Hinz, assistant to the director of university housing, says the name was selected because of the building's focus on sustainability and conservation.

It has solar panels to assist with hot water heating and monitors for electricity and water consumption throughout the building. It also has a greenhouse on the top floor where students can grow plants year-round.

Leopold's youngest daughter Estella Leopold says the family is very pleased to hear the building is named after her father.
