STOUGHTON-Thomas Earl Currie, age 86, passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Skaalen Nursing home with his loving family by his side. Tom was born in Madison, on June 15, 1926, the fifth of seven sons to Elmer and Mary Currie. Tom attended West High School and after school enlisted in the Army in 1944. He served honorably and was discharged in 1946.

He married Joyce (Marguerite) Reiter at Saint Raphael’s Cathedral on July 15, 1948. Tom was a wonderful father to his sons, Michael and Richard.

Tom worked as a switchman for the Milwaukee and Northwestern railroads and retired after 20 years. Later Tom worked for the Madison Board of Education as a custodian. He worked at Gompers and Midvale middle schools and Memorial High School. He retired after 25 years of service.

Tom was an avid bowler and horseshoe player, in later years he enjoyed playing dart ball in the Stoughton church league. Tom had a wonderful sense of humor and he was quick with a quip even to the end. Many in the Stoughton area may remember Tom for the years he worked as the friendly and talkative Walmart greeter.

He truly loved being with his extended family and was instrumental in starting and continuing Currie family gatherings and reunions. It was always his goal to build and strengthen family bonds. He leaves his family with many fond memories of Christmas and holiday gatherings.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (Kimberly) of Stoughton and Richard (Cheryl) of Madison; his beloved grandchildren, Justin, Lauren, Kevin; and great grandson, Mason. He is also survived by his dear brother, John (Karen) Currie of Deerfield; and brothers-in-law, Donald (Kay) Reiter and Ben Fernstrum of Menomonie, Mich; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Tom was blessed to have many good friends, neighbors and family members whose long conversations brought him much joy.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce; and five brothers, Bill, Bernie, Bobbie, Eddie, and Harold.
