Verona -- Sigfried Postweiler of Verona, WI, passed away at St. Mary’s Care Center, Verona, WI, on February 14, 2013 at the age of 78. Through his final months, Sig held tight to life with the same commitment and fortitude he demonstrated in his life. His passing on Valentine’s Day is a reminder to us of the loving heart he held inside.

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." -- Thomas Campbell.

Sig was born in his family home of Westport, WI to parents Rudolf and Emilie Postweiler. Rudolf, a vegetable farmer and Emilie, a nurse-midwife, (1st generation immigrants from Germany) welcomed Sig into this world on March 4, 1934, joining brothers Rudolf, Raymond, and sister Irmgard. Sig attended Catfish School, a one-room elementary school, in Westport before attending Wisconsin High School, Madison where he graduated in 1953.

In 1955 Sig enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Germany, his family’s homeland, for almost 2 years. Upon his return, Sig married and had 3 children, Teri (Johnson), Jeff, and Jill (Sommers).

Character, devilish, prankster, fun, friend, father, uncle, brother, quiet, tough, hard-worker, strong, committed are all words used to describe Sig. Spending much of his life working more than one job at a time, Sig was committed to hard work and stepping out of his comfort zone. As much as Sig worked hard, he also played hard. Boats, ATV's, snowmobiles and travel colored Sig’s life journey. On sun-filled days Sig could be found basking in the sun while snow-covered weekends were met by Sig cruising the snowmobile trails. Big, fast and adventurous; hard-working, stout and firm -- qualities of a man who lived a life filled with challenge, adventure and laughter. Sig’s heart shone strongest when around animals, especially dogs.

Sig is survived by his children Teri (Brad) Johnson of Oregon, WI; Jeff (Becky) of Verona, WI; and Jill Sommers, Milwaukee, WI. Other survivors include his sister Irmgard (Emy Imhoff) of Madison, WI; brother Raymond (Sandy) of Northbrook, IL; grandchildren Ryan and Tyler Johnson of Oregon; Amy and Logan Postweiler of Verona; and Kati Fitch of Milwaukee. Sig is preceded in death by his parents Rudolf and Emilie Postweiler and his brother Rudolf Postweiler.

Memorial Services and a Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Ryan Funeral Home, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Sig was a lover of animals, especially dogs. Please, as a contribution today, give your dog a nice long walk and a huge hug. In addition, donations can be made to the WI Humane Society at
