MADISON, Wis. -

A Madison man will face additional charges after he attacked a social worker while he was being booked into the Dane County Jail, the Dane County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's officials said Rondino Fleming, 20, had just been brought to the jail Sunday evening after being arrested by Town of Madison police on a probation violation, a harassment injunction violation and a charge of resisting and obstructing.

Every person booked into the jail is assessed by medical and mental health professionals prior to being housed in the general population.

Fleming was seated in the mental health assessment area with the social worker to sign standard jail forms. Once in possession of the pen, he grabbed the social worker around her neck and attempted to stab her with the pen, according to a Dane County Sheriff's Office news release.

Two Dane County sheriff's deputies were able to quickly intervene. While one deputy grabbed Fleming's hand before he could stab the social worker, the other deputy pulled her from Fleming's grip, according to the release.

Sheriff's officials said additional deputies then arrived and immediately escorted Fleming to a segregation cell.

No one was physically injured during the incident, including the social worker, who remained calm, sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff's officials said Fleming will face charges of first-degree reckless endangering safety and disorderly conduct while armed.
