Ruth E. Steinback, 85, of Platteville died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at her home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Platteville United Methodist Church, Platteville. Rev. Brenda Whitford will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Ruth was born on March 20, 1927 in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, daughter of Angus Vernon and Rena (Helmenstine) Hodgson. She was united in marriage to Douglas A. Steinback on July 10, 1948 at the Blue Mounds Methodist Church. Doug preceded her in death on November 28, 2011. Ruth taught school at the Pleasant Point School and then at Stumptown School for a few years. After getting married she farmed alongside her husband for many years in Harrison Twp., Grant County.

She was an active member of the Platteville United Methodist Church, and the Southwest Auto Club. Ruth volunteered her time for many years for Meals on Wheels and at the Platteville Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, traveling and playing cards.

Ruth is survived by her four children, Douglas D. (Janice) Steinback of Platteville; Diann (Doug) Oberfoell of Dubuque, IA; Dan Steinback of Platteville; Suzanne (Jim) Weigel of Platteville; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Weigel on October 27, 2002, great-grandson, Mason Oberfoell on February 20, 2006, sister, Amy Larkins and nephew, Bob Larkins.
