Robert G. King

COTTAGE GROVE-Robert G. King, age 79, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on April 2, 1933, in Monroe, the son of Herman and Marie King. He married Rose Aeschlimann on July 25, 1954, in Monroe. Robert was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Oscar Mayer Foods for 34 years. Robert enjoyed birds, fishing, hunting, , feeding various animals, and camping. He was a member of American Legion No. 248, and a longtime Boy Scout Leader for Troop 150. Robert was a member of the Monona Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years and then Cottage Grove Volunteer Fire department for more than 38 years. He was active with the Cottage Grove Fireman’s Festival and Parade. In May 2012, Robert was named the 2012 Citizen of the Year from Lion’s Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; sons, Mike (Lori Hendrickson) King, Mark (Denise) King, and Robert (Bridget) King; Mary’s children, Jess Graff, Jay Buss, and Jackie Buss; Mark’s children, Aaron, Ashley, Abigail, and Austin King; Bob’s children, Alana and Mara King; brother, Marion “Bud” (Mary Lou Hustad); sisters-in-law, Rose King, Janis Goss, and Linda (Doug) Beck; brother-in-law, Gene (Diane) Aeschlimann; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary King; brothers, William and Gilbert; and brother-in-law, Karl Aeschlimann.

Funeral services will be held at BRYN MAWR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 229 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, at Noon on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, with the Rev. Dr. Craig M. Howard presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens with military rites being conducted. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cottage Grove Fire Department, American Legion Post No. 248, or to Agrace HospiceCare. A special thank you to the oncology nurses at Columbus Hospital and to Agrace HospiceCare.

Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.
