Richard "Dick" Weigel

Richard “Dick” L. Weigel, 69, of Platteville died on Monday, January 21, 2013 at his home.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Cowboy Country Church, 1200 Betty Lane, Mineral Point, Wisconsin. Pastor Stephen Troester will officiate. Chapel Military Rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the celebration at the church. Dick was born on February 3, 1943 in Platteville, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Jean (Henry) Weigel. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Shirley Bowden on February 18, 1967 at the Lutheran Church of Peace, Platteville. For over 47 years Dick drove truck where he received many awards for being incident and accident free during his career where he drove over millions of miles. He hauled milk while in school and later for McMorHan Co of Shullsburg. He drove for Ruan Transport for 15 years and then for Air Liquide America until his retirement in 2009. Dick was a member of the Cowboy Country Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the VFW and Teamsters Union. He enjoyed the outdoors and riding horse with his wife and family. He loved to spend time with his family where he cherished following his sons and their families in all of their activities.

Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Kenny (Carrie) Weigel of Cuba City, WI; Jason (Tracy) Weigel of Platteville; four grandchildren, Jamie, Brandon, Hailey and Jessa; sister, Barbara (Charlie) Bratton of Platteville; brothers, Ronald (Julie) Weigel of Mineral Point, WI; Mike (Buffy) Weigel of Platteville; brother-in-law, Norman Mauthe of Platteville; sisters-in-law, Beth (Roger) Steinhoff of Platteville; Nancy (Mark) Burbach of Elkhorn, WI; Paula (Dan) Cushman of Platteville; special nephew, Robbie Weigel and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Joyce Mauthe.
