What is your favorite part about living in Madison?

Living near my family and being a part of a great news organization

What is the biggest news story that you've covered?

I’ve been for fortunate to cover 3 Super Bowls, 2 Summer Olympics and National Political conventions, but producing a documentary about Pope John Paul II and shadowing him during Holy week at the Vatican was my most memorable assignment.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spend time with family, play golf and cheer for my Pittsburgh sports teams

What is your favorite kind of ice cream?

Chocolate chip

What is the funniest thing that's ever happened to you?

I managed to shoot an entire football game between Notre Dame and the University of Miami at the old Orange Bowl in 1990 from the sidelines AND get locker room post game interview without a press pass. I was supposed to have one but when I arrived they didn’t have one for me. I managed to creatively get in. Some would say I sneaked in. It all worked out.

What is your favorite place to vacation?

Pittsburgh, PA

Who is your hero and why?

My father is my hero without question.  He taught me that character and integrity matter.

What was your favorite band when you were in high school?

The Eagles

What is your favorite sport to play or watch?

I love to play golf and hockey and I enjoy watching those sports as well.

If you could possess one superhuman power, what would it be?

Time travel, so I could spend a few more minutes with my parents.

What are you really bad at that you'd love to be great at?

I am perhaps the worst basketball player on earth.  When my son (who inherited my basketball skills) play a game of horse it can take days for either one of us to make enough shots to win.

What is your most memorable travel experience?

My wife and I spent 18 days in Europe for our 30th wedding anniversary and toured Italy, Spain, France and Greece.

What is the worst job you have ever had?

I worked at a car wash during the winter after graduating high school.  No fun.

Who would you most like to interview alive or dead, and why?

I would love to interview Abraham Lincoln to gain his perspective of leading this country during the most challenging of days.

What is your favorite tradition around the holidays?

My family has a quirky tradition of watching the movie “Christmas Vacation” on Thanksgiving Day.

What is your favorite song of all time?

That’s easy: Brad Paisley’s “Mud on the Tires”

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Steven Spielberg’s, “Lincoln”

What is your favorite book of all time?

“Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

From my father I learned there are no shortcuts in life. If you want to be successful you have to outwork the other guy.

If you could relive any moment...what would that be?

I would want to relive the birth of my son.

Where were you when September 11, 2001 occurred?

My wife and I were at home watching on television and, like everyone else, trying to make sense of a senseless act.
