Madison police said officers used a K-9 and tracks in the snow to make an arrest in a home burglary case Wednesday morning.
Officers were called to a home on Brookins Court at 1:33 a.m. for a report of a home burglary. A 47-year-old woman in the home said she was up getting a glass of water when she heard the knob of the door to the garage start to turn. She told police she held the knob and screamed for her husband. The 49-year-old man and his 20-year-old son chased the suspect.
Police said the burglar left behind keys he had stolen to a truck parked in the garage.
The family showed officers the marks left by the suspect's shoes in the snow, and police said they used a K-9 which led them to a home in the 1200 block of South Thompson Drive.
Police said a woman allowed officers in the home where they found Vernon E. Lyles, 20, of Madison who was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
The tread on the tennis shoes matched the tracks left in the snow at the victims' home, according to police.
Lyles has been convicted of burglary in the past, according to police.
