Police search for stolen trailers sold online

Published On: Oct 11 2012 07:30:58 PM CDT
JUNEAU, Wis. -

Police are searching for stolen trailers that may have been purchased by people who did not realize they were buying stolen property.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Department, a man was arrested several weeks ago on charges of multiple trailer thefts.  Police said the suspect sold the stolen trailers on Craigslist and would scratch or remove identification numbers.  A few pontoon boat trailers have been recovered at this time.

The department continues to search for several other stolen trailers tied to the thefts.  They believe stolen trailers were unknowingly purchased, but the current owner of a stolen trailer could face criminal charges.

Police encourage trailer owners to contact authorities if they might have purchased a stolen trailer.  The owner may be eligible to receive restitution for the amount paid.

Additional information about the stolen trailers is available at www.dodgecountysheriff.com by clicking on "Stolen Trailers."  Police are asking locals to view the photographs for any recognizable characteristics which may assist in the investigation.

Those with additional information about the thefts are asked to contact lead investigator Detective Kevin Day at 920-386-3963 or kday@co.dodge.wi.us.
