MILTON, Wis. -

A Milton man is in police custody after a three-hour standoff Tuesday afternoon.

Milton police were called just before noon to a home in the 600 block of Rogers Street for a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived at the scene, they worked quickly to get a woman and two children out of the home.

Milton police called in the Rock County SWAT team to deal with the suspect, identified as Joseph Usher, who police said was armed with several knives and holed up in the basement.

SWAT team members broke windows to get to Usher.

"They were able to hit him with two bean bag rounds, which caused minor injuries to the subject, and the SWAT officers took him into custody," said Troy Knudson, of the Rock County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies said Usher was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and charges are pending.
