Police chase leads to arrest of man dressed as woman

COLUMBUS, Wis. -

Columbus police have arrested a Madison man dressed as a woman after a chase by foot across two cornfields.

Derrell Burns, 21, was arrested on probation violation and felony charges of eluding an officer, according to a Columbus Police Department statement.

Police tried to stop Burns’ vehicle on Park Avenue in Columbus for suspicious activity, and Burns refused to pull over, the statement said. Police then pursued him out of Columbus and ultimately into the town of Deansville, where Burns fled from his vehicle on foot while it was still moving. The empty vehicle hit a Columbus squad car, causing minor damage and no injuries.

According to the statement, officers chased Burns on foot through two cornfields. They initially thought they were chasing a woman. After enlisting the help of a police K-9, officers took Burns into custody and found he was a man dressed as a woman.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
