MADISON, Wis. -

Police said the woman who rear-ended a man’s car on the south side Tuesday is his ex-girlfriend.

According to a report, a 43-year-old Stoughton man called police about 2 p.m. after he said he saw a female driver slam her SUV -- multiple times  -- into the back of a moving car. The witness told police the car stopped on Sunfish Court and the agitated SUV driver got out, went to the stopped car and began pounding on its windows, shouting obscentities at the couple inside.

The male driver, a 37-year-old Madison man, told officers the woman who hit him and pounded on his car is an ex-girlfriend, and the 29-year-old Madison woman with him in the car is his current girlfriend.

He said he was driving south on Turbot Drive toward Post Road when he looked in his rear-view mirror and realized his ex was tailing him. Shortly thereafter, the suspect began ramming his car, according to the report. The victim estimated the number of strikes were more than a half dozen. He told police he feared for his and his girlfriend’s safety, so he pulled onto Sunfish Court and stopped.

He and the other woman kept doors locked, and windows up, during the ensuing tirade. He said the suspect wanted to get at them, but eventually gave up and left.

The suspect -- a 27-year-old Madison woman -- fled before police arrived and on Wednesday morning, she remained at large, the report said.
