People flock to Eagle Days

Published On: Jan 19 2013 05:20:07 PM CST

People flocked to Prairie du Sac and Sauk City this weekend to catch a glimpse of the nation’s most magnificent birds.

The 26th annual Eagle Days celebration kicked off Friday night and featured events like live bird shows and Civil War era presentations. But according to Ferry Bluff Eagle Council President John Keefe, the birds themselves were the central attraction.

“You can see the eagles really well, soaring below the dam, fishing and looking for food, or maybe just perching in some of the trees right down river from the parking lot there, so there are just all kinds of opportunities,” Keefe said.

Tour busses shuttled people from the Sauk Prairie High School every half-hour to locations across the towns where individuals could watch eagles in their natural habitat.

Keefe said the Eagle Days tours attract more than 1,500 people every season, bringing in increased traffic to local businesses in the area.
