Packers preseason schedule set

The Green Bay Packers will open exhibition play at home against the Arizona Cardinals sometime during the second week of August, be visited by the Seattle Seahawks for a nationally televised Aug. 23 game - the closest thing they'll have to a rematch of the infamous Inaccurate Reception game from last September - and travel to St. Louis and Kansas City to complete their preseason schedule.

The NFL announced its full preseason schedule on Thursday, although it did not set specific dates for three of the Packers' four games. The only firm date for the Packers is the game against the Seahawks at Lambeau Field, because that game will be shown on CBS.

The Packers' other three games will be on its preseason TV network.

The team will open preseason play against Cardinals at Lambeau Field sometime between Aug. 8 and 12. The Packers will then travel to St. Louis to face the Rams sometime between Aug. 15 and 19.

After playing host to the Seahawks on Friday, Aug. 23, they'll travel to Kansas City to close the preseason against the Chiefs on Aug. 29 or 30. It will mark the fourth straight year the two teams have closed preseason play against each other.

Last season, the Packers played all four of their exhibition games on Thursday nights, and it's possible coach Mike McCarthy will work to play all four games on Fridays in order to keep a consistent schedule. That would mean the games would be played on Aug. 9, 16, 23 and 30, if McCarthy has his druthers.

"I think when you play four weeks in a row on the same day, it's a benefit because you like training in seven-day intervals," McCarthy said at the NFL Meetings last month.

None of the four teams on the Packers' preseason slate are on Green Bay's regular-season list of opponents. The league is expected to release the regular-season schedule later this month.
