NORTH PLATTE, Neb. -

Authorities say a body found nearly a year ago along the South Platte River in western Nebraska was that of a Wisconsin fugitive.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said DNA samples and other evidence led authorities to conclude that they'd found 64-year-old Denys Ray Hughes.

Hughes was from Wisconsin. He had been convicted in 2006 for trying to make a biological toxin and for making pipe bombs. He was sentenced to 87 months in a federal prison. In May 2011 he was put on a bus so he could transfer to a halfway house in Milwaukee, Wis.

He didn't show up. Authorities believe Hughes got off the bus along Interstate 80.

His body was found on April 20, 2012, near North Platte. Authorities said he probably died of natural causes.
