MADISON, Wis. -

Daytime burglaries in western Dane County have deputies asking citizens to be alert and lock their property.

Since Aug. 16, deputies have been called to 23 homes burglarized while the homeowners were away.  The thieves have taken electronics, cash, jewelry and guns, according to investigators.

Deputies said the thieves have taken advantage of unlocked doors or windows but they’ve also forced their way into homes.

A witness to one of three Wednesday burglaries in Westport Township told investigators they saw a white Toyota or Honda leaving the area at a high speed.

Investigators are not certain the burglaries are related, but say the crimes have some characteristics in common.

Anyone witnessing suspicious activity is asked to call 911.  Anyone with information on the crimes is asked to call the Dane County tip line at 608-284-6900.
