MADISON, Wis. -

Madison Memorial junior Caroline Smith says she almost didn't become a gymnast.

When she was six years old she says, "I think I walked off the floor crying because I was so nervous."

But she's come a long way since then through years of hard work.

Memorial assistant coach Jordan Smith says "she's got talent above and beyond what the sport requires as far as high school is concerned."

Caroline Smith says "my confidence has grown a lot and I think that helps me do better in gymnastics overall."

Smith finished second at state in the all-around competition last March and just last weekend, tied for first in the all-around at the Waunakee sectional - the last step before state.
