Mary J. (Larson) Olson

DEERFIELD/WINDSOR-Mary J. (Larson) Olson, age 50, of Windsor and Deerfield, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. She was born on June 9, 1962, in Madison, the daughter of Donald and Darlene Larson. Mary married Mark Olson on June 22, 1985, in Deerfield. She graduated from MATC in 1982, with a degree in accounting. Mary worked at the Deerfield Greenhouse for many years. She was an avid gardener which was evident in her beautiful flower gardens and her large vegetable garden. Mary was a very kind and caring person who provided volunteer service for numerous organizations including the Windsor Elementary School, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts troops. She was often referred to as the “professional volunteer”. She was very active in her children’s lives chaperoning many field trips and attending their many school events. She was an advocate for children of all ages allowing her to form some very special bonds with many children. She was a former member of St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Deforest where she taught religious education. Those who knew Mary thought of her as a very strong and independent woman always willing to help out whenever needed.

Mary is survived by her husband, Mark; children, Kristin (Andy) Newbegin of Lawrence, Kan., and Ryan Olson at home; mother, Darlene; siblings, Lori (Chuck) Noel, Donald (Donna) Larson, Brian (Laura) Larson, and Trish (Brian) Coughlin; nieces and nephews, Matt, Chad and Courtney, Cassandra, Amanda, and Brooke, Heather and Bryor, and Nicole and Michael; great-niece, Chloe; and brother-in-law, Gary (Camile) Olson of Park Falls. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald; in-laws, Leo and Cleo Olson; brother-in-law, Randy; and grandmother-in-law, Arlene Warn; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

A special thank you to the staff at Capital Lake’s Nursing Home and Agrace HospiceCare for their excellent care they provided to Mary. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or the American Heart/Stroke Association.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

Service:
Funeral services will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15, 2013.
