Madison school board approves new superintendent's contract

MADISON, Wis. -

The Madison Metropolitan School District's Board of Education has approved a two-year contract with the district's new superintendent.

The board said the agreement with Jennifer Cheatham, which includes a potential one-year extension.

Cheatham will make $235,000 in her first year and reasonable and necessary moving expenses will be paid for.

Her predecessor, Dan Nerad, made $206,000 in his final year as superintendent.

The contract also stipulates responsibilities for the position, which include "maintaining and improving her professional competence" as well as "being engaged actively in the community."
