A former plant researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is accused of growing marijuana in a university lab.
Christopher J. Schwartz, 45, made his initial appearance in Dane County Circuit Court on Monday. He has been charged with two felony counts of marijuana manufacturing and possession.
Prosecutors said someone discovered 12 marijuana plants being grown inside a growth chamber in the biochemistry building last month. The criminal complaint said the chamber was used by Schwartz and locked with a padlock.
A university spokeswoman said Schwartz was initially placed on administrative leave after his arrest, but he resigned late last month.
The complaint said Schwartz acknowledged growing the plants for personal use.
