MG wins boys swimming showdown with McFarland

Two of the state's top boys swimming teams met in McFarland Thursday night and Monona Grove held off the Spartans 87 to 83.

McFarland has won the WIAA State Division Two boys swimming state championship the last six years while Monona Grove is the number one ranked team in Division Two this season.

Monona Grove's Alex Kimmell and Lars Doll got the Silver Eagles an early win in the 50 meter freestyle.. Kimmell edged his teammate by just nine-hundredths of a second to take first place.

McFarland's Tony Donagan then beat both Doll and Kimmell in the 100 freestyle in a time of 56.22 seconds.
