Lydia E. Brickbauer

Lydia E. Brickbauer, age 92, of Middleton passed away on Friday, April 19, 2013, at her home, The Aster in Cottage Grove.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1920, the daughter of Ferdinand and Hulda Albertin.

She married Elwood A. Brickbauer whom she met while attending Lakeland College. Together they transferred to UW-Madison where Lydia received her Bachelor’s in Education. Lydia started her career as a high school science teacher. When they started their family, Lydia focused her time and talents on raising her family.

She has been a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Middleton since 1957. Lydia has a great love of life, displayed by her support and encouragement of her husband and her loving, gentle ways with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting family and friends as they traveled across the U.S.

Lydia is survived by her children, Carol Ozark of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., Mary (Robert) Bauer of Vienna, Va., and James (Judy) of Cottage Grove; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Buddy) Blanton, Jonathan (Nicole) Ozark, Brent and Mark Bauer, and Krista and Carl Brickbauer; her sister-in-law, Alina Hanser of Burnett; and her loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Agnes Siech and Gertrude Falle.

Funeral services for Lydia will be held at ST. LUKES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Madison, at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, with the Rev. Heather Lampert presiding.

Visitation will be held at the church from 9 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Plymouth at 11 A.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elwood and Lydia Brickbauer Graduate Student Research Fund through the University of Wisconsin Foundation Fund or to St. Lukes Lutheran Church.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff and residents at The Aster for all of their love and support.
