MADISON, Wis. -

A police K-9 uncovered a storage unit containing more than 60 pounds of marijuana while investigating a separate incident in DeForest, according to Town of Madison police.

The Town of Madison police K-9 assisted with the investigation into a storage unit at a storage facility on Cottage Grove Road on Dec. 7 when the dog alerted officers to another storage unit nearby, according to officers.

DeForest police said they contacted the owner of the storage unit and the owner agreed to meet with law enforcement but the owner didn’t show up.

A search warrant issued and officers said they found 65.14 pounds of high grade marijuana worth approximately $234,500 and three handguns.

The Dane County Drug Task Force assisted in the investigation.
