Joseph Powers, age 80 of Mauston, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Friday, February 22, 2013.

The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mauston with Father Valentine Joseph celebrating. Visitation will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M.

Joe was born May 19, 1932 in Mauston the son of Edmund and Winnifred (Mulloney) Powers. Following high school he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Returning home he continued farm work with his father and brother with dairy, beef cattle, hogs and cash crops. He married Eileen Sumiec in Mauston in August of 1959. He later switched careers from farming and started his own barber shop in Mauston where he enjoyed the diversity of his clientelle. Joe was proud to be his own boss as a farmer and barber, community service was important as he was a member of the Mauston Lions Club and a former president and he helped organize Finnegan’s Wake, an Irish themed variety show at the church school.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Eileen; sons, Nathan of Chicago and Ryan (Michelle) of Aurora, Illinois; a brother, Raymond (Georgia) of LaConner, Washington; a grandchild, Sydney and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Edmund, Patrick and twin boys; and sisters, Catherine Crisco, Winnifred Reisenauer, Margaret Powers and Mary Powers.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
