James J. "Jim" Duffy

James J Duffy

James J. "Jim" Duffy age 69, died on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at UW-Hospital, Madison.

He was born on May 15, 1943 in Columbus to Joseph and Jane (Altschwager) Duffy. Jim was a 1961 graduate of Columbus High School and a graduate of MATC Meat Cutting Class. Jim was employed in the family business at Duffy Bros. Livestock in Columbus. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1962 until 1968. Jim was married to Joan Edwards on June 11, 1966 in New Lisbon. He was employed at Enerpac in Columbus for 41 years. Jim was a lifelong member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and was a past member of its Parish Council and former church treasurer. He was a member the Knights of Columbus. He was a member and past president of the Columbus Lions Club, Tail Twister and Membership chairman. Jim was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Humanitarian Services. Jim served as a Cub Scout Master and a coach for Little League Baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Joan of Columbus; one daughter, Joylyn (Scott) Patrick of Milwaukee; one grandson, Jonathon of Milwaukee; a sister, June (John Knight) Duffy of Franklin; a sister-in-law, Leta Nelson of New Lisbon; a brother-in-law, George (Anita) Edwards of Los Alamitos CA; one niece, Alene (Jason) Lowe of New Lisbon; two nephews, Kendric (Marie) Nelson of LaCrosse and James Edwards of Provo UT; grandnieces, Desiree and Alexia Nelson of LaCrosse and Amelia Lowe of New Lisbon; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph in 1988; two brothers-in-law, James Edwards and Jerry Nelson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Eleanor Edwards.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at ST JEROME CATHOLIC CHURCH, Columbus. Rev Steve Kortendick will officiate. Interment will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Columbus. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. (with a prayer service at 8:00 P.M.) on Wednesday, January 2, at the funeral home and from 10:30 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the Columbus Lions Club or the Columbus-Fall River Food Pantry.
