Hundreds of pardon apps sitting on Walker's desk

MADISON, Wis. -

Gov. Scott Walker has refused to consider more than 1,400 pardon applications since he's taken office.

An Associated Press analysis of pardon application data shows 1,403 active applications sitting in his office. A little less than half of the applications have come in since Walker became governor in January 2011.

Walker, a Republican, never set up his administration's Pardon Advisory Board and in November 2011 suspended the pardon program outright. The governor said he doesn't want to inject himself into the criminal justice system.

Sen. Lena Taylor, a Milwaukee Democrat, has proposed a bill that would require the governor to appoint a pardon advisory council that would meet quarterly and make recommendations to the governor.
