Henry Arno Daum Jr.

Monticello, WI-Henry Arno Daum Jr., age 95, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, February 25, 2013 at his home.  He was born on November 29, 1917 at St. Paul, MN to his parents Henry Arno and Agnes (Johnson) Daum.  Henry graduated from the University High School at St. Paul and then graduated from Macalester College in St. Paul.  He then served in the United States Navy during World War II.  On July 17, 1943 he was united in marriage to Suzanne Sherk at Cumberland, MD.  Henry was then transferred to Norman, OK and later Oakland, CA where he ended his naval service.  Henry and Suzanne moved to Chicago where he attended the University of Chicago and earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work.  He was a professor of Social Work at St. Olaf College, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Mississippi State at Meridian from where he retired as Professor Emeritus.  Following his retirement Henry resided in Monticello, WI.  He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Meridian, MS, and Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN, the Lion’s Club, Y’s Man, and the American Society of Social Workers.

Henry is survived by his wife Suzanne of Monticello, WI, three children Toni Daum of Meridian, MS, Henry (Heidi River) Daum III of Monticello, WI, and Ali (Rick) Daum Liddle of St. Paul, MN, grandchildren Nathaniel Liddle, Noah Liddle, Claudia Liddle Jennings, Robin River, and Christo River-Paprock, great-grandchildren Izzy River-Furlano, Elliot Liddle, and Isadora Liddle, and a sister Barbara Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The Zentner-Beal Funeral Home of New Glarus, WI is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Henry Daum Scholarship at Mississippi State University-Meridian, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the American Heart Association.
