Helen Nevel

PORTAGE- Helen J. Nevel, age 90, of Portage, formerly of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 in Lodi. She was born on March 2, 1922 in Belvidere, Ill., the daughter of Elmer and Lucy (Jewell) Ross. On Oct. 10, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to Lloyd Nevel. She worked for WNWC Radio in Madison. Helen was a musician at Memorial Baptist Church in Verona and together with Lloyd served on the board of the Dells Christian Campground.

She is survived by her children, James (Kristine) Nevel of Tennessee, Ronald Nevel of Madison, Mark (Deborah) Nevel of Hartland, Ruth (Kent) Schoonover of Milwaukee, Alice Kubiske of Rhinelander, Barbara (Kim) Calkins of Portage and Harold (Lisa) Nevel of Brooklyn; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and further survived by her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; parents; and four brothers.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, with Helen’s grandson, Jonathan Nevel presiding. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
