Harriet Stein

MADISON/MONTREAL- Harriet Stein, age 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 22, 2012, in Monona, Wisconsin. Close family members were at her side. Harriet was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Dec. 3, 1917. As a young adult she was a gifted photographer capturing beautiful and moving images around New York and in Mexico. She met her husband, Isidore, when he was visiting his cousin in New York from his home in Montreal, Canada. Harriet and Issie began their life together in Montreal where they raised four children in a loving and stimulating secular Jewish home. Eight years ago Harriet moved to Madison to be near her son, Marty and his family. Her life had many stage, but throughout she was strong, caring, creative and intelligent.

Harriet is survived by her four children and their spouses, Philip (Effie), Shari (David), Martin (Julie) and Caroline (Tim). She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Lara, Mira, Hannah, Tony, Claire, Ray, Gabby and Jonnie; and great-grandson, Lex. A

Memorial Service will be held at THE ARTS AND LETTERS CLUB, 14 Elm St., Toronto, Canada, at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012. The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful, caring staff at Reynolds Assisted Living in Monona, to Dr. David Watts and to Agrace HospiceCare for all their support and dedication.
