George C. Deckert, 85, of Blue River, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at his home. He was born May 7, 1927 in Richland County the son of Edger P. and Grace F. (Buck) Deckert. George was drafted into the US Army and served from 1945-1947 in the 88th Division in Italy. George married Betty Jean Miller in Blue River. George farmed in Richwood Township, hauled milk, worked American Motors, and the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. He was a lifetime member of American Legion 443 in Blue River and VFW Post 10393 in Boscobel. George served as the Blue River American Legion Commander for 4 years. He was a member of the Backroad Express Riders and enjoyed deer hunting.

George is survived by three children: Rick (Jeanne) Deckert of Blue River, Nancy Fitzgibbons of Ferryville, David (Karen) Deckert of Blue River, 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, sister, Beulah (Walter) Sprecher of Sauk Prairie many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Edger and Grace, wife Betty, and sister Edith Pearl Brown.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Five Points Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Five Points Cemetery where military graveside rites will be provided by the Blue River American Legion Post 443. Friends may call at the Godager Pratt Funeral Home in Muscoda on Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 and again at the Five Points Lutheran Church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to Grant County Hospice. The Godager Pratt Funeral Home of Muscoda is assisting the family with their arrangements.
