LAKE MILLS, Wis. -

A standoff in Lake Mills Tuesday evening ended peacefully, according to the Lake Mills Police Department.

Police were called to a home in the 600 block of West Madison Street at 7:54 p.m. for a report of a possible suicidal subject. Police said they made phone contact with the man who led police to believe he would harm himself if police entered.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted in setting up a perimeter and shut down streets in the area.

Negotiators made contact with the man, who after several hours let officers into his home. He was taken into custody without incident at 12:03 a.m.

Police said they seized a loaded shotgun along with another shotgun and rifle.

The man was taken into custody on emergency detention and the Jefferson County District Attorney will consider possible criminal charges.
