MADISON, Wis. -

The National Hockey League draft started Friday night, and no Badgers were taken in the first round.

Free agency starts July 1. That’s how former University of Wisconsin star Adam Burish is looking for a new job.

Burish won the national title with the Badgers in 2006 and the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010.

The past two years, he played for the Dallas Stars, but his contract is up.

Burish, who scored 14 goals in 128 games with the Stars, doesn’t know where he might land.

“It's kind of nice (being a free agent),” he said. “July 1, I kind of have the luxury of seeing what's out there and kind of picking a team that I think would fit me best. If that's going back to Dallas, great. If not, I'm going to see what else is out there. July 1 or the end of the month, we'll kind of see what may happen.”

While Burish waits for free agency, he said he gets to play a little more golf.

He works out on campus, knowing the phone will start ringing in a little over a week with offers from around the league.

Burish said he really doesn’t sweat the fact he doesn’t know where he’ll end up.

“You kind of sit back and kind of chill out a little bit,” Burish said. “I haven't thought about it. I really haven't. All I've thought about is I really want a chance to win again. I want to play on a team that has a chance to win again. Being a free agent, having the luxury to pick and choose, assuming that a good team wants you, I guess. But, I'm excited about that.”
