Dorothy L. "Dottie" Harbort

WAUNAKEE/MADISON-Dorothy L. “Dottie” Harbort, age 88, of Waunakee, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at her residence in Waunakee with her family by her side. She was born on Mar. 27, 1925, in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Lyman and Louise (Schneeler) Cady. Dottie attended school in Kansas and met her husband, John H. Harbort, while he was serving in the military and she was serving as a dancer with the USO. They were married on May 12, 1946, in McPherson. They were together 62 wonderful years. Dottie worked for Pizza Hut in the accounting department for many years before retiring. She and John were able to fulfill their lifelong dream of retiring on the lake and wintering in Destin, Florida. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, the OK Club, and was a member of the Waunakee Silver Sneakers. Dottie loved to keep busy and to help others.

Her favorite times were spent with family and friends. Dottie commented numerous times throughout her life how blessed she was.

Dottie is survived by her children, Craig (Linda) Harbort of Friendship, John C. (Debbra) Harbort of Sun Prairie, and Holly Hustad of McFarland; grandchildren, Heather (Bill) Pellino of Waunakee, Chris (Amy) Harbort of Woodbury, Minn. , Amanda (Beau) Brezenski of McFarland, Melissa Hustad of McFarland, and Jared Harbort of St Paul, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Brennen and Ellyse Pellino, Cade and Hayes Harbort, Grace and Brady Brezenski, and Mason and Liam Nienstedt; sister, Susan (Norm) Walter of St. Joseph, MO; sister-in-law, Ruth Navratil; special friends, John and Pat Cuccia; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John H. in 2008; son-in-law, Gary Hustad; sister, Helen (Homer) Hulse; and brother, Harry (Virginia) Cady.

uneral services will be held at MESSIAH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5202 Cottage Grove Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church or American Family Children’s Hospital.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Agrace HospiceCare staff for their loving care this last month. “What a special Mom you were. We love you and you will always be in our hearts.” “We will miss you Mom, Grandma, Grandma Great.”
