Diane Kay Schafer

Diane K. Schafer, age 58 of Monroe, died unexpectedly at her home on Friday, March 8, 2013. Diane was born August 26, 1954 in Monroe, the daughter of Arthur and Anna Mae (Brown) Andrews. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1972 and attended MATC. Diane married Michael Schafer on December 1, 1978 in Monroe and was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Pleasant View for 13 years. Diane had an extremely caring heart who was a wonderful caregiver to her family. She enjoyed shopping and loved spending time with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her son, Matthew (Sofia) Schafer; grandchildren, Guadalupe and Alexander Schafer; her father, Arthur Andrews; a sister, Kathleen Andrews; sister-in-law, Deb Andrews, all of Monroe; four nieces, Salena (Josh) Allen and their children, Isaac, Alexis, and Connor, Lindsay Andrews, Miranda Andrews, Alyshia (Matt) Sathoff and their children, Nolan and Tenley; a nephew, Kyle Andrews; and a special friend, Wayne Martin of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her mother, Anna Mae; and a brother, Harold Andrews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Reverend Randy Booth officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Diane’s name.
