Deputies: Two men might be linked to numerous burglaries

Published On: Jan 18 2013 03:25:10 PM CST

BEAVER DAM, Wis. -

Two men arrested during the investigation of a reported burglary might be linked to burglaries in numerous counties spanning two years, according to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers responded to an Amerigas franchise south of Beaver Dam on Highway 151 at 1:32 a.m. Friday when surveillance technology picked up activity at the business. The first two officers on the scene reported seeing two men running from the building.

Deputies said one man was found trying to hide on the loading dock of a storage building, and officers said he was armed with a handgun. They said a second man was found in a drainage ditch and was held by officers at gunpoint.

The man found in the ditch had a gym bag containing burglary tools and items stolen from Amerigas and a neighboring business that was also burglarized, according to investigators.

The men are 20 and 27 years old.

Investigators said several Amerigas franchises were burglarized in 2011, and the same locations were burglarized again in 2012, which is why the Sheriff’s Department installed surveillance equipment at the businesses.

Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls said they are fielding calls from several other counties investigating similar burglaries over the past two years. He said the men possessed tools, drills, pry bars, face masks, two-way radios and other items to carry out the burglaries.
