The chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Madison is continuing to defend her plan to spin off the state's flagship school from the rest of the UW System.
In a taping of WISC-TV's "For the Record," Biddy Martin explained why the so-called New Badger Partnership will benefit UW-Madison and the state of Wisconsin.
"We want to keep bringing in over $1 billion in new funding to Wisconsin, in research money, in philanthropy," said Martin. "These are the things that create jobs, that allow for innovation, and that will keep our young people in the state."
Martin's full interview with WISC-TV Editorial Director Neil Heinen aired Sunday morning.
Earlier this year, Martin wrote to the governor's office that UW-Madison wants flexibility in the face of declining state aid. Autonomy for the campus that would also grant it freedom to set tuition, among other things.
