Carl J. Haakenson
Lodi/Deforest - Carl J. Haakenson, age 81, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center. Carl was born on May 10, 1931 in Madison, the son of Carl and Sena (Anderson) Haakenson. In 1949 Carl joined the 176th Fighter Squadron of the Air National Guard in Madison. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force 19th Bomb Wing in Guam during the Korean War. Carl married Marjorie Cruzan in 1951. Two daughters, Roxanne and Patricia were born of this marriage. Marjorie preceded him in death as a result of a automobile accident. He married Janice Benz on April 22, 1960. A son, Bradly, was born of this marriage. Carl was employed by Marling Lumber Company for 38 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. They moved to a home on the Wisconsin River in 1979, and enjoyed many years of boating on the river and Lake Wisconsin. In 2004, they moved to the Jefferson Square Condo’s and enjoyed their time there. He was a former member of the VFW Post #1318 in Madison, a former officer of the Portage Elks Lodge #675 and presently a member of the American Legion Post #348 in Deforest. Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife Janice, survivors include his children, Roxanne (William) Edick, Patricia (Scott) Schaefer and Bradly (Janet) Haakensen; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was prececed in death by his parents, sisters Doris Miller, Bernice Holzhueter, Shirley Groth and Myrtle Weichmann; his brother Raymond; 8 half-brothers and two half-sisters.
Funeral services will be held at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main St., Deforest at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 with Rev. Jerry Olson presiding. Private family burial will be held a Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30am until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Lodi Good Samaritan Center or to the Christ Lutheran Church of Deforest.
