TOWN OF BELOIT, Wis. -

Town of Beloit police are looking for a shooter after a woman was injured in a shooting Wednesday.

Police were called to the 1900 block of South Wisconsin Avenue at 3:57 a.m. for a report of a shots fired incident. Officers said a vehicle with four occupants parked in a driveway was the apparent target of the shooting.

"Shortly after they pulled into the driveway, a vehicle pulled up on Wisconsin and the passenger in that vehicle started firing a handgun," Police Chief Steven Kopp said.

All the occupants were Janesville residents, and a 30-year-old woman in the car was shot in the arm, according to police. She was treated at Beloit Memorial Hospital and released.

Officers said 12 .40-caliber casings were recovered at the scene and the vehicle was struck five times.

"It's very lucky that there weren't more injuries," Kopp said.

Nearby residents said the home where the incident happened has been hit by gunfire before.

Kopp said the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

"We got some conflicting stories from the four occupants of the vehicle about why they happened to go to this house at 4 o'clock in the morning," Kopp said.

Police said the shooter fled north on South Wisconsin Avenue in a dark blue sedan.

On the same block, three people were injured during a shooting in January outside the Silver Slipper Saloon.

"I don't think this is a trend that we're seeing. This shooting is certainly unrelated to the one we had back in January, so I don't think this is a pattern," Kopp said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Town of Beloit Police Department at 608-757-2244 or Greater Beloit Crimestoppers at 608-362-7463.
