MADISON, Wis. -

The Madison Police Department said it will be increasing patrols in the area of John F. Kennedy Elementary School on Madison's far east side after bullets were found at the school's playground.

Police were dispatched to the school at 221 Meadowlark Dr. Monday morning after students found bullets near a basketball court.

Officers recovered numerous live rounds, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.

The principal is sending a note home to parents.

Similar discoveries of live ammunition took place at the school twice in November 2011.

The two 2011 incidents occurred 10 days apart. In one of those incidents, the bullets were scattered on the sidewalk near the school's entrance.

In the other 2011 incident, 200 .22-caliber bullets were found on school grounds.
