MADISON, Wis. -

Bail is set at $1 million for a Wisconsin man charged with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his half-brother last summer.

Jeffrey Vogelsberg, 28, appeared in Dane County court on Wednesday. After trying to fight extradition from Washington state after his arrest in November, Vogelsberg was returned to Madison and booked into jail last Friday.

The criminal complaint alleges that Vogelsberg tortured and beat his half-brother, 27-year-old Matthew Graville, on June 30 at a home in Mazomanie where they were living.

Graville had Asperger's syndrome, an autism-spectrum disorder. Detectives found Graville's body buried in the woods months after he disappeared.

Vogelsberg has also been ordered not to have contact with his co-defendants, Robert McCumber, the landlord who is accused of helping to hide Graville's corpse, and Vogelsberg's mother, Laura Robar, who is facing identity theft charges.

Robar is accused of spending Graville's public assistance after he died.

A preliminary hearing for Vogelsberg is scheduled for Jan. 10.
