Badgers get early start to football practice

Published On: Apr 12 2013 04:31:26 PM CDT

MADISON -

The Badger football team started practice at 6:30 Friday morning - not exactly what most college students hope for.

But there are a couple of good reasons why head coach Gary Andersen scheduled the early practice.

It's a chance to get the work done and give everyone a bit of a longer weekend with the next practice not scheduled until Monday afternoon.

Andersen also likes to "mix things up" to prepare the team for whatever's coming in the fall.

"We talk about it all the time - nothing can phase you because in this game, you don't know what's going to happen. You can jump up 14-zero or you might fall down 14-zero.

You might have to make a play three weeks in a row in the fourth quarter to either win it or lose it and that's part of the reason I like to throw curveballs at kids. " Andersen said.

"It's good for all of us to be able to adjust to situations. It's like I told 'em today, if it's a pre-game meal and we have to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, so what, it doesn't matter, you've gotta be ready for everything in this game because you never know what's going to happen."
