Badgerbots gives students engineering opportunities

MADISON, Wis. -

Wisconsin’s next generation of engineers prepared for the future Sunday at Badgerbots.

Local high school students tested robots they designed and built themselves. The event provided practice and preparation for the upcoming regional robot tournament in Milwaukee in March.

Students said Badgerbots gives them the chance to apply engineering skills to real-life work.

“I really enjoy the building, and the idea that I can create whatever I want, and I can pitch ideas that other people will listen to, and then we can brainstorm and play off of that, and eventually we'll have a working robot,” said West High freshman Jamie Frankel of Badgerbots.

Regional Director Maggie Peterman said the event isn’t just about building robots, but that it also teaches students teamwork and cooperation.
